WALKING DISCLAIMER

Walking is one of the healthiest and safest of outdoor activities. However, neither Runnymede Area U3A, nor the Walk Leader/Organiser of the walk(s) has control of the environment of the Walks, the weather, any animals or indeed of any of the walkers themselves. Whilst taking normal precautions, providing reasonable help and assistance as necessary, they cannot accept responsibility for any circumstances affecting the Health or Safety of the Walkers in the party.

Walks organised by Runnymede U3A Walking Briskly Group automatically receive Public Liability Insurance cover, provided the Leaders are U3A Members through the Third Age Trust. This is designed to protect Leaders against claims for damage to property and for injury or death which might have been occasioned on the Walk. This is NOT a personal accident insurance and accordingly participants on walks are responsible for their own Health and Safety and the safe keeping of their equipment, clothing and belongings.

Participants on Walks should follow the advice/instructions of the Walk Leader in order to minimise any risk to themselves and should also ensure that they do not endanger any others in the party.

ALL WALKS ARE RISK ASSESSED

The walks range between four and six miles and members of the group take turns in planning and leading the walks. In this way we get a good range of walks in and around the Runnymede area. The walk is at a brisk pace and where possible we will stop for coffee, either en route or at the end.

The U3A is a self help organisation and does rely on members being prepared to assist in the organising of walks. The groups are always extremely grateful to those members who offer to lead walks. Planning a walk usually proves both informative and enjoyable.

Walking Briskly Group members do not allow the weather to put them off - come rain, wind or sun nothing deters them– waterproofs are hastily donned and off they go – please don’t let the weather put you off – come and join your fellow U3A members and enjoy the exercise and getting to know Surrey!

ALL WALKERS MUST NOTE THAT THEY:-

Take part entirely at their own risk.

Are required to supply their Membership No. and to complete a Disclaimer Form.

Must provide an emergency contact telephone number

Please also note:

It is strongly recommended that members wear suitable footwear, especially in winter. A walking stick(s) may prove helpful.

In warm/hot weather walkers should have an adequate supply of drinking water.

Many walks finish near pubs/eating places so that walkers can enjoy refreshments in good company.

Please check with each walk leader if you wish to bring a dog, which must be kept under strict control and on a lead.

Suggestions and offers to lead walks are always welcome. There are walk books to borrow, and help for those who would like to lead a walk.
